A couple of points about the silver foxes. First, you mentioned Mendelian inheritance. You didn’t mention that that is and was the prevailing theory everywhere - except in the Soviet scientific establishment, where Stalin had made Lysenkoism the state dogma. So Belyaiev had to disguise his experiment as something else Secondly, I believe that many of the physical characteristics of domestic animals are examples of neoteny: the retention of juvenile characteristics into adulthood.
